~ Further information may be found under PHOTOGRAPHY, POETRY, PIC LIT, and so on.
~ Elsewhere on the site I may refer to other works as "books," even if they have no ISBN number (because I've never made them commercially available). The Play of Gilgamesh also has no ISBN number, because that's how the publisher (Silver Birchington Plays) operates. They provide reading copies on request, and acting copies once the play is licensed for performance.
~ For publication in journals, focusing on more recent appearances (i.e. since the site opened in September 2021), visit the PERIODICALS page (a subsection of the POTPOURRI tab).
MUTT SPIRITUALS, 111 page paperback, San Francisco Bay Press, 2021
A full-length poetry collection. Availability in flux. (I have three copies.)
I can't yet supply a correct ISBN number for this book. The ISBN manager assigned SFBP several duplicated numbers, including for my book. As I write this now, the publisher is trying to get the whole set deleted, so we can resubmit the catalog to Amazon. This problem has persisted for several months now, and is proving very hard to resolve.
UNSAY THEIR NAMES, 240 page hardback, September 2021 (Amazon), July 2021 (Blurb)
· ISBN-10 : 1006490183
· ISBN-13 : 978-1006490187
A hybrid photography/non-fiction book about the fall from grace of Richmond's Lost Cause statuary. Blurb is the printer, from which the older (July) edition is available directly. The ISBN numbers are for the Amazon edition, updated after Lee and his horse were removed from his Monument Avenue pedestal. Amazon frequently makes this book TEMPORARILY unavailable: it won't accept orders for Blurb books on non-business days.
UNSAY THEIR NAMES: an exhibition of photographs, 60 page paperback, October 2021
· ISBN-13 : 978-1-00-633784-0
This abridged version of the September hardback served as the catalog for my fall 2021 exhibit of about 50 photographs at the Black History Museum & Cultural Center of Virginia. While it is available directly from me it was produced for the BHMVA, and is for sale in their bookshop
BLUE NIB CHAPBOOK #1, 2017 Chapbook Contest Winners, 42 page paperback, 2018
· ISBN-10 : 1999955013
· ISBN-13 : 978-1999955014
I get the first third of this book; the 2nd and 3rd place poets get the rest. All my poems from this chapbook (available on Amazon) are reprinted in Mutt Spirituals.
AN ALPHABESTIARY, 124 page paperback, 2018
· ISBN-10 : 1983598984
· ISBN-13 : 978-1983598982
This self-published book features light verse and homemade illustrations. It continues to be available on Amazon, or more cheaply, from me.
"An Alphabestiary is a book of light verse quatrains, and of lightly lyrical verse quatrains. Each A to Z section (there are four) is devoted to a distinct group of animals, beginning with the mammals and ending with creatures fabulous and imaginary. Each quatrain is preceded by a brief prose commentary on its subject (mostly zoological and factual; occasionally personal or fanciful) and each one is rounded off with its own small illustration. The result is a merry brew of wit and animal trivia and whimsical invention."
POETRY VIRGINIA REVIEW: Annual Contest Winners, 2016, 102 page paperback, 2017
· ISBN-10 : 1544722516
· ISBN-13 : 978-1544722511
As the editor of this book, featuring the first prize poems in the 2016 contests sponsored by the Poetry Society of Virginia, plus poems by 22 of the 26 judges, I contribute several short articles and one poem of my own. It continues to be available on Amazon.
THE FLAP OVER TREE DEBRIS ISLAND, 84 page paperback, 2020
· ISBN-13 : 978-1-71-440196-3
This hybrid poetry/photography book about the wildlife of Forest Hill Park is no longer available except directly from me. Most of the poetry is light verse. I may yet choose to reprint it as is, or to rework it entirely. (Working title: OBSERVATORY PARK. This book would contain all the writing and most of the photography from The Flap, but broaden the scope considerably.)
