Scattershots, at Book People, with Derek Kannemeyer

Time: Tuesday, JULY 15, 2025, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm

Place: Book People, 10464 Ridgefield Parkway, Gleneagle Shopping Center, Henrico, VA 23223

Event:

~ it’s a book signing, for my two newest books, Scattershots (2025) and Found Voices (2025)

~ it’s a reading-slash-poetry party, focusing on performance pieces from Scattershots

~ it’s an author retrospective, featuring chat about earlier works, and a poem or two each from

Mutt Spirituals, You Go In By The Gate That Isn’t There, and Found Voices

~ there’ll be some show and tell (see Art Display, below) about Unsay Their Names

Books currently in stock at Book People:

Found Voices, 2025 (dramatic monologues and verse tales, Clare Songbirds Press)

Scattershots, 2025 (a rollicking stew of learned lighter verse and wacky performance pieces, cyberwit)

Other books available at the July 15 event:

Mutt Spirituals, 2021 (poetry collection, San Francisco Bay Press)

Unsay Their Names, 2021 (nonfiction/photography; one of Kirkus Reviews’ “100 Best Indie Books of 2022”)

A Betabestiary, 2022 (a light verse and animal factoid browsing book)

The Memory Addicts, 2022 (a novel, Atmosphere Press)

You Go In By The Gate That Isn’t There, 2023  (poetry collection, cyberwit press)

Stalking Crawlrollies, 2024 (a Spinal Tap meets Lewis Carroll mockumentary illustrated space opera novel

                                                 written largely in nonsense verse)

Art Display:

~ My award-winning photography/nonfiction book Unsay Their Names documents the June 2020 to September 2021 fall from grace of Richmond’s Lost Cause statuary.

~ The Black History Museum and Cultural Center of Virginia blew up and mounted fifty or so of its photographs for their fall 2021 “Unsay Their Names” exhibition.

~ When the show closed, the museum kept a score of the display copies and offered thirty to me. I’ll bring the 27 I have left to Book People. They’re signed and annotated on the back, and up for sale.

~ If you’re looking for inexpensive, museum-mounted pics of spraypainted and toppling fallen heroes, and of the Richmonders who flocked to bear witness to it all, Book People on July 15 is the place to be!
