POETRY ARCHIVES
"Feet at Dawn" and "Surface Noise" were manuscripts I put together for my own benefit. I made no attempt to publish them. Much later, I believe it must have been in the 1990s, my father grew a little tired of waiting for me to put out a proper collection, and got a chapbook printed, maybe ten copies, with selections from roughly this same period (or 1971-1977, maybe?). He chose poems which I'd mailed to him, often in unfinished versions, or which I'd published in literary journals of which he had copies. I'll see if I can lay my hands on it, and maybe share some of those pieces here.

Asterisked are the poems which I published in various UK journals, before coming to America in 1975. I've revised most of them. Double asterisked ones ran in American publications. "Waking in the Night" won a VCU writing contest—I took an undergrad writing class there, and one (later, with Davc Smith) in the MFA program; I even did a stint as literary editor of Richmond Arts, a VCU literary and visual arts periodical. Rolling Stone took "Helter Skelter," some time in the 80s. An odd piece of good fortune to befall me for such a weak poem! I've boasted of that credit ever since.
